A DIFFERENT KIND OF PHOTOGRAPH

The shutter was
only the beginning.

A light field holds more than one way of seeing a moment. Lightfield Studio gives you the controls to explore it—without changing the original capture.

01 / REFOCUS

Look a little closer.

Shift the focal plane after the photograph was taken. Move the slider, or use Point Focus to explore a subject.

02 / DEVELOP

Make the light your own.

Exposure, color, curves, white balance and crop. A familiar editing workspace, built around your light fields.

03 / KEEP

Bring it back into the world.

Open your .LFR and .LFP captures in the desktop app. Export a 16-bit PNG master or a JPEG to share.

BUILT FOR WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE.

Your camera had a future.
Your photographs still do.

Lightfield Studio is an independent project with a simple idea:
the photographs you love should stay in your hands.

No account to create. No photo uploads.Your originals stay original.
A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
come on in.

Is this the actual Lightfield Studio interface?

Yes. This demo reuses the v0.5.11 editor and runs its interactive preview renderer locally through WebAssembly. It is limited to the site’s curated sample. Full-resolution export and AI enhancement belong to the desktop application.

Can I bring my own photographs?

In the desktop app, yes. Open your Lytro .LFR or .LFP captures from individual files or folders. This website deliberately does not accept uploads or open files from your computer.

What does “runs locally” mean?

The browser demo downloads a prepared light-field sample and processes it on your device. The desktop app runs a local service and opens its interface in your browser. Your photo-editing workflow does not need a remote processing service.

What happens to my original capture?

Edits are non-destructive. The desktop app stores an edit recipe rather than overwriting your Lytro original. PNG and JPEG exports are separate images. Demo settings are saved only in this browser; Reset restores the original view.

Why does my Mac show a security warning?

These macOS builds are not Developer ID signed and notarized. macOS may block the first launch. Only approve a copy you trust and obtained from this site. The first-launch guide explains the per-app approval process; you do not need to disable Gatekeeper.

Does the website use AI to make the demo image?

No. The browser preview uses only the site’s curated Lytro sample, when available. It never substitutes an AI-generated photograph. Optional AI super-resolution is a separate desktop feature and depends on runtime and GPU availability. It is not used to invent the demo photograph.

01 First launch on macOS

One extra step on your Mac.
You only need to approve this app.

This build is not Developer ID signed and notarized. Approve it only if you trust its source. Do not use these steps to override a warning that an app is known malware or “will damage your computer.”
  1. Download the correct build.

Open Apple menu → About This Mac. “Chip” identifies an Apple silicon Mac; “Processor” with Intel identifies an Intel Mac.

  2. Try opening Lightfield Studio.

If you see the unidentified-developer warning, choose Cancel or dismiss the warning. Do not move your trusted download to the Trash.

  3. Approve it in your Mac’s settings.

On newer macOS: open System Settings → Privacy & Security. Find the blocked-app message and choose Open Anyway. Enter your password if asked.

On older macOS, use System Preferences → Security & Privacy → General, then Allow Anyway. Unlock the padlock if required.

  4. Confirm Open.

Launch the app again if needed and choose Open in the confirmation. Lightfield Studio opens its interface in your browser. Keep its process running while you edit.

THE OLDER macOS FLOW, STEP BY STEP Tap any screenshot to enlarge.
1 Dismiss the warning.
2 Choose Allow Anyway.
3 Confirm Open.

These supplied screenshots show an older macOS release and the v0.5.7 filename. Use the same per-app approval flow for your downloaded v0.5.11 build; button wording can differ.

The downloaded file won’t launch?

This is a standalone executable, not a .dmg installer. If it lacks executable permission, open Terminal and run the commands below for the build you selected. Complete the per-app security approval above when prompted.

Commands assume the file is in Downloads. Change the path if you moved it. After quitting, run the executable again to reopen the studio.
